About my class

Through most of their school careers my students have suffered through mathematical education that was purely theoretical. They have not had the opportunity to visualize and work hands on with the math they have been trying to learn. Because of these shortcomings, most of my students are behind grade level in their mathematical education. Through the use of these manipulatives, they can gain concrete understanding of the concepts they are learning in class. They can be shown they are capable of learning math, and that it can be fun in the process. Research has shown time and again that the key to successful mathematics education is hands-on engaging activities, not rote memorization of facts and formulas. I am asking for fifteen Four-pan Algebra Balance packs, twenty sets of Magnetic Algebra Tiles, a set of Fraction and Decimal Tiles, and a set of Soft Foam Magnetic Fraction Tiles. Through the resources requested, my students will be able to experience high quality hands on mathematics education, something they were not able to experience at their previous schools.
