As a Teacher of the Deaf and hard of Hearing, I provide services to students on a 1:1 basis (sometimes in groups) to meet their needs. These supports range from direct instruction, differentiating instruction, modifying instruction and curricula, Assisted Daily Living skills (ADL's), Discrete Trial Training (DTT) for acquisition of functional skills, supporting the use of Hearing Devices (FM units, Hearing Aids etc), and Self-Advocacy Skills. My students range from kindergarten-12th grade General Education students who only need support with hearing equipment to maximize audition in the classroom, to students with learning disabilities, multiple disabilities, Charge Syndrome, Downs Syndrome whose needs are far greater. Students with hearing loss are often visual and tactile learners. The availability of an iPad would greatly enhance our sessions and make learning engaging, inviting, motivating, and meaningful.
