The course seeks to enable its participants with a sense of agency over What History Is and How It Is Told. We begin with an examination of what we know of history. We ask questions like, "Who writes history? Who gets to write them?" and "How is history preserved?" We learn from each other when we ask one another, "What are your stories?" The goal of this project is to create a visual archive of those stories which we feel are important and personal to us. The visual work and it's culminating exhibition will be our way of sharing ourselves with our community, and encouraging a culture of art and solidarity at our school. The paints and paintbrushes I am ordering through donor's choose will be utilized to create visual images representing moments or entire stories from our personal histories.
