I am a teacher at Semple Elementary School in Louisville, Ky. The school became an ESL school in the 2016/17 school year which was also my first year at the school. Since that time our ESL population has grown in size and diversity to include students speaking: Spanish, Arabic, Somali, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, and Mai Mai to name a few. The school has grown to embrace our multicultural identity and our staff and students consider ourselves privileged to be here. Our classroom serves as a central hub of sorts. It is used for pull-out groups, assessments, parent meetings, and any other technique we can use to ensure the success of our students. As a program and as a school we hope to build our program as we move forward to truly embody the greatness our students show every day.
