I'm teaching a science unit for the students in our school with special education needs. There are nearly 60 students who I will be teaching about the plant cycle and because the majority of these students understand better with real world experience I wanted them to witness the plant cycle for themselves by planting their own plant and watching it grow! What an exciting experience! The classroom plant kit will help my students plant their own seeds and watch them grow over the next 6 weeks of the science rotation. There are also plant windows for my class to watch the roots grow and understand more about the hard work that goes on under the ground. The water beads will help my students understand how the plants soak up the water we give them and act like little plant cells. I am also teaching some social skills lessons and the Julia Cook social skills books are amazing at conveying deep issues to students of all ages and abilities. These supplies will help my students learn hands on about the plant cycle and allow us to talk about the social skills we need to understand one another. These books include learning about personal space, expanding your mindset, and understanding your anger. There is also a book about boogers and how to properly dispose of them which is an extremely helpful way to teach using tissues before our cold and flu season really takes off.
