The students require explicit instruction, guided practice, then independent practice in order to learn and retain the information. Having a large whiteboard allows for optimal use of our classroom space. A large whiteboard allows for guided practice to be visible while students use other areas of the board for independent practice! It also creates a friendly and competitive learning environment when students can race to the answer on the same workspace. The students have also been receiving learning support for a significant amount of time and need access to new texts to keep their interest in reading so that we can continue to strengthen their reading skills.
