Choice-based art education allows students to take charge of their learning and imagination and make the choices that work best for them. During art class, my students choose a center that works for them. Currently, my students choose to work in a variety of centers in our room such as drawing, painting, and sculpture from recycled materials. I want to provide them with other modern, less traditional options that they will find motivating. Technology is something this generation is highly motivated by. I am requesting four Galaxy tablets for a Photography and Digital Art Center in our classroom. I plan to offer a variety of options for students to explore the elements and principles of art and the artistic process through photography and digital art. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are able to choose a center that inspires them. Not all students feel comfortable expressing themselves through traditional art forms. Some students have fine motor difficulties that make them feel insecure. The tablets that I have chosen for this project will not only offer students another venue for creation but also provide assistance to students who may feel an extra challenge in the discipline of art. I have seen how giving my students choices can positively affect their work, attitude, and motivation, and hope that the addition of a photography and digital art center with further inspire them.
