Special Needs items will assist children in regulating their disabilities to learn and socialize in class. Due to limited community resources and Head Start grant funding for supplies, there are not enough learning aids. These aids help children expend negative physical and emotional energy. Otherwise, their feelings can create frustration and fatigue that can lead to emotional or combative outbursts that disrupt learning. Sensory aids also help children overcome difficulties with texture and touch, hand -eye coordination, and fine and gross motor skills. The items on the Special Needs Wish List are not just toys; they are crucial aids to help a child engage with the world around them. Providing supports to children with disabilities and other special needs in their early years reduces their need for special education and other supports later in life (Educating Exceptional Children, 2008).
