Many of my students are not exposed to different reading materials outside of school. One year, I was shocked to learn that students didn't even know what a magazine was. Nonfiction texts are the most difficult for students to comprehend, but it’s what they are exposed to on a daily basis in Reading, Social Studies, and Science class. Nonfiction texts are also mostly tested on the state test. Every Scholastic article is aligned to Texas standards, which will help me to closely identify the areas that students need the most help. The lesson plans and teacher guide provided by Scholastic will further help me engage my students with thought provoking discussions, quizzes, and sill building.
