My students are innovators. They are creative, diverse, and inquisitive. Teachers are no longer the sole means of information. Students now need us to help them figure out what information is credible. Teach them accountability. Encourage them to try, struggle, retry, repeat. We have to provide context with instruction so they can make connections outside of the classroom. And most importantly they have to be adaptable! My job is to teach math and support each kids journey to find themselves. To help them embrace what is unique, exceptional, and distinctive about them. Lastly, it is to remind them to always be kinder than necessary. Supporting their classmates victories will never dampen their own success. Empathy and inventiveness are essential. We all learn and think differently- and that is okay! Their creativity is the key to their future. More than ever our kids have the ability to be anything they can imagine.
