Being in a full inclusion classroom provides a wonderful opportunity to not only teach but celebrate our unique talents, abilities, and needs. Research suggests that preschool age children learn best through hands-on experiences where they can interact with materials and explore through dramatization. A vital interest center in any preschool classroom is the dramatic play center. Children learn to make sense of our world through dramatic or pretend play. A staple in any dramatic play center is dolls. To further develop an understanding of our world through play we need dolls that look like actual preschool age children and accessories that make them unique just like us, extends the play and takes it to a higher level of learning. I'm requesting a Lakeshore Multi-Ethnic School Doll set and an Adaptive Equipment for Dolls with Special Needs set. I plan to rotate the dolls which represent varying ethnicities along with rotating accessories that represent various needs and exceptionalities on a regular basis so the children have a variety of opportunities to explore and help them learn about everyone's unique abilities. Additionally, these materials in the dramatic play center promote conservations supporting a wide variety of vocabulary development and speaking and listening skills. These skills are foundational in later years for beginning readers and writers.
