Flexible seating has been peer reviewed and is statistically shown to increase student learning. Giving students these wobble chairs, bean bags, balance balls and other seating options is beneficial in a number of ways. When students are comfortable in their seating, they are able to focus more and learn more of the critical skills I am trying to teach. By allowing students to select from a range of seating choices, I am giving them power over their own learning, and making it possible for them to reach their highest potential. Not only that, but these seating options are incredibly beneficial for students with special needs. Not only am I increasing their learning ability, I am also encouraging students to take ownership of their own learning. They are learning to be self-reflective, and advocate for the things that they need to be successful. These life lessons carry on past the classroom walls.
