These activities will be used in math and literacy workstations to help students use what they've learned during instruction and apply their learning to hands-on, interactive experiences. Students spend an hour and a half each day (math and literacy combined) in workstations. These activities will help that time be meaningful and engaging for students, helping them to gain meaning of the skill and strategies being taught during instruction. The students will work with the literacy activities in the following literacy workstations: fluency (where they will work to become more fluent and accurate readers), reading comprehension (where they will work to gain meaning and apply comprehension skills and strategies of the texts they are reading), and phonics/phonemic awareness (where they will associate letters and letter sounds, blend them together and read words). The students will use the math activities during differentiated math workstations where they will work on base-10 (helping them build and break numbers apart) and recognize numbers and identifying place value to help them add and subtract larger numbers easily. All of these are foundational skills that will help students build upon to become better readers and mathematicians. They will work in pairs/small groups with these activities, helping each other apply their knowledge to help build meaning. Students will be able to remain engaged in these activities throughout their workstation time. Students will be EXCITED to complete their activities when they are engaging and hands on! :)
