We are requesting for Wonder Books! Our students have minimal access to books and we will use these titles to engage in book discussions with the entire school community. Wonder is a popular book about a 5th grade boy who has an usual look but is a very caring and brave person. This book encourages students to Choose Kindness, empathize with each other, and have confidence in being a good person, not being influenced by bullies or other negative peer experiences. During our volunteer book club meeting students will meet with other teachers and community members to discuss their thoughts about the book, characters, and plot. Bringing the community together to discuss the books is a great way to build a literate community who loves reading. To combat book deserts, students will keep these books at home and encourage them to share with siblings, friends, and family members.
