Reading-Does a Mind Good! is a project that will impact my students in a very special way. It will help them feel successful while they are struggling to learn English. I believe students need access to books in their native language as well as English in order to be successful. Learning English as a second language is a struggle for many students. It can be very disheartening for a student to struggle each day and not feel successful. If they can read and be successful in their native language, I want to have those books available for students. As students read in Spanish, they will feel successful and branch out into bilingual books, and transition to English books. They will be able to read the same books as other students and be able to discuss them in class or in reading groups. It will help close the achievement gap and give students the literacy help they need.
