Research shows that the appropriate use of calculators greatly increases the quality of learning for students in math. Calculators are a valuable educational tool that gives students the ability to reach a higher level of mathematical power and understanding. My project will not only elevate students' academic achievement, but will also increase their confidence and desire to learn. Calculators will allow our students who would normally not want to solve the problems with paper and pencil computations and algorithms to experience higher levels of mathematic reasoning, and also helps them to “more quickly and readily develop number sense, gain mathematical insight and reasoning skills, value mathematics, and cultivate mathematical understanding, while they enjoy what they are learning.” according to Heidi Pomerantz research on “The role of Calculators in Mathematics.”
