I teach art in a densely populated and ethnically diverse city where nearly all of my students come from low income families. I see about 700 students a week and teach a wide range of populations (English-language learners, students on the Autism spectrum, students with physical and learning disabilities). To add to the challenge, I teach art off of a cart that I push into 40 different classrooms a week. Despite this setback, my students and I are always producing works of art from a wide array of media and that connect to cross-curricular themes (social studies, STEM). I am constantly amazed by my students' inexhaustible enthusiasm about making ANYTHING. They are happier with a piece of white paper and a #2 pencil than most kids would be about an iPad. But they deserve more than just paper and pencils and I would like to give them diverse experiences in art class.. with your help!
