My students are delayed in speaking which makes the communication process a more diverse one. Some of my students use velcro communication tools, some use gestures and modeling, others have personal communication devices. My classroom is a self-contained AU class, specifically designed for students with Autism. The less wordage in my room the better! My students are overwhelmed by noise and easily frustrated while trying to decipher and process a conversation. Having 3 classroom iPads would be fantastic for my students!! In collaboration with other teachers, I am EXCITED to continuously show the multitude of ways in which technology can better the performance capabilities of these my students, increase their participation in socialization and improve their academic achievement. I would have the same educational apps on all 3 for consistency and familiarity for the students. There are numerous apps that pertain strictly to students with communication delays that I am eager to try for my class. Your contribution would be greatly appreciated, not only by myself and my students, but the other faculty and staff we encounter daily. I would experiment with taking our devices to our special classes, such as Music, Art, PE, etc. to increase the ability to communicate without as much frustration.
