As many of you know, Hurricane Harvey caused historic and deadly flooding in the Houston area. Many famiIies lost everything and as a community we are in great need of many donations. This past May I graduated from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and joined the Houston community through Teach for America. I am beginning my first year as a 4th grade Math and Science Teacher at a elementary school. As of now, the impact from Hurricane Harvey is that my school was almost completely under water and is not safe to enter. My school is in the top 9 most damaged schools in Houston Independent School District. To begin the school year, my students and I will be meeting in an alternative location. My classroom has lost everything: basic classroom supplies, SMART board, iPads, some of my personal belongings, student donated supplies, and all instructional items.
