Project Based Learning: What is it? Like many things in education, it's not new. But, it's an approach that's rarely used in traditional settings. Think back to your favorite project, the one you remember most, the one you worked the hardest on and loved the most, because it made a real difference. If one comes to mind, it probably contains many PBL characteristics. There are 5 keys to PBL: 1. Real World Connections - Students have an authentic opportunity to make a difference. 2. Core standards are built in. 3. Structured Collaboration - Students are not just presented a project and abandoned. Process steps are scaffolded to support success. 4. Students have choices to express their voices. 5. Embedded, Alternative Assessment PBL is showing excellent results for long term learning and transferable skills. Full engagement, cross curriculum efforts, making a significant difference -- THAT'S PBL!
