The goal is to order 8 of these drone kits for use in my computer science courses. The reason is that this little drone can be safely used indoors and is fully programmable, which means that students could put their coding skills to practice. For students who are new to coding (or needing more time to get their feet wet), MIT's Scratch can be used for programming the drone. For students who are feeling a little more comfortable with JavaScript. The idea would be for students to work in groups of 2-3 over a period of 4-6 days. The goal would be for each group to code a basic flight and landing pattern. More advanced students may decide to go beyond the basics. Aside from this brief project-based work, the drones would be available for students to use as "extra credit" extended learning opportunities. Not only would this provide a meaningful opportunity for students to apply their coding skills, but this incredibly exciting and fun activity will invariably help motivate their learning!
