My students learn best through having hands on materials to manipulate, explore, and create with. The building materials will help them develop spatial awareness, critical thinking, and problem solving skills as they work to create a variety of outcomes through their buildings. They will also learn to collaborate with others while working with peers. Four year olds are active and most engaged when doing! They will have the opportunity to express themselves with some of the sensory materials such as play dough and outdoor chalk. These materials also provide great opportunities for the teachers to build letters, model writing and foundational skills in letter recognition and development. A drying rack will also help keep our art area organized when students are creating, painting and gluing projects. A CD player with CD's will provide music for the students to relax in the classroom as well as provide listening and following directions opportunities by listening to movement and dance CDs. Combined these requested materials provide multisensory learning experiences that strengthen the students' connections to learning as well as build community. Dolls will enhance our dramatic play and allow the students to act on real life caring for babies which connect to many of their home lives as well as provides the opportunity to act out real-life experiences. Young children process and learn about the world around them by having experiences that allow them to imitate and recreate what they are living through and witnessing on a daily basis.
