In my class we do lots of Think-Pair-Share Activities where students are allowed to work with partners to share and discuss ideas. Usually this would take place on a carpet. This year, my class does not have a carpet and my students have to sit on the floor while we do our whole group activities. A lot of times my students stop the lesson to tell me how cold or uncomfortable they are from sitting on the bare floor. My only option then is to sit them at their desk. Learning at the desk is harder for them because a lot of them become distracted while others tell me they can't see what I'm putting on the board. The desk also makes it harder for my students to work in groups because they are bunched up and don't have the room to spread out like we would on a classroom carpet. My students ask "Ms. Griffin are we going to ever get a rug?" I simply sigh and say kids I'm working on it!
