I am looking for a different, new, fun way to teach history, and I think I have found it in my Civilization Project. Using an interactive CD-Rom called Civilization V, my students will create a "history book" based on the history of their civilization within the game. The program allows the students, who have been divided up into groups, to pick and represent a civilization and then take that civilization from 4,000 BCE to the present day. They will then incorporate what happens within their interactive CD-Rom and create their own "history book" of their civilization using a PowerPoint presentation. The laptop I am requesting will provide my students with a solid platform as they complete their Civilization Project to experience a perspective learning history that they would not get in any other situation. The laptop requested will accomplish several things. It provides a mobile platform so that the CD-Rom can be viewed by the whole group or class if need be. We will be able to plug it right into the projector for certain learning opportunities. Finally, the laptop is a high performing up-to-date machine that will not have any problems saving and or running the game applications.
