I love a good book...especially a NEW book. I want my students to experience the smell of their crisp, clean pages. This project is meaningful to us because my students typically do not get the opportunity to get new items. My students have specifically asked for more copies of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Ballet Cat. When I was younger, I loved the book "Counting on Frank". This book designed to support students in estimation, probability, and size is one of my favorites and will be very beneficial for my students and teachers. Students have requested more books! Although feeling the pages turn beneath my fingers is part of the reading experience, I must prepare my students for their future in a technology driven world. I feel it is important to incorporate reading and instruction using technology. With online libraries, I can further their opportunities using the iPads. With the iPads I am requesting, my students will be able to do online readings, research projects based around outer space or addition and participate in apps designed to increase their reading levels. The iPad cases will be used to protect the technology so they can have it in their hands. The interactive pen system along with the projector will be used during direct instruction of language, reading and literacy. The ones doing the work are doing the learning so having my students interact with the lesson on the board is not only more engaging but increases the quality of their education. The laminating materials will be used for card sorts among the various grade levels as we work on concepts such as text features, plot and sentence structure. The other supplies such as the headphones and paper cutter will help students stay engaged with teacher-made products online or tangible activities.
