Makerspace centers are the up and coming trends in library media centers. The library is a place of learning and not just reading a book. Our media center is striving to increase critical thinking skills by incorporating robotics and coding in makerspace centers in the media center. We have recently set up collaboration centers for students to use to collaborate and create projects. Our focus is to now individualize learning through the use of innovative learning centers. These centers will have assigned standards that incorporate coding and technological manipulatives to answer higher order and critical thinking skills. Through the use of the Osmos program, Ozbots, and Code-a-pillar students from Pre-K - 5th grade will be able to learn how to code and have access to innovative learning centers that support STEM and STEAM objectives. Students using an iPad and manipulatives will have hands-on learning through technology and increase higher order thinking skills to accomplish tasks. Students who may not be strong in academics may find a career path in coding and robotics through the makerspace centers in the library media center.
