Having a good nice "huddle" carpet will teach the children to understand what a community is and to build community in the classroom. It will also foster their learning to understand expectations during the "huddle" time. I use huddle time for all whole group learning. Morning meeting gets their day started. The first thing we do is a mindfulness activity. This activity gets them focus for the days learning. We then go into our morning meeting. I make sure they know what the day will look like. The carpet will help with the morning meetings and other whole group instruction. The pocket charts will help with organization. For example, I might use one for my community leaders (helpers) in the classroom.
