My students are gifted third graders who have been accepted into our program. Though bright, they often struggle with their social and emotional needs. Throughout the year, we work together to develop as scholars and as citizens of the wider community. The shining faces of my students reflect the varied racial and ethnic makeup of the city in which I teach. Different languages, religions, and cultures are part of what make my classroom and community so vibrant. While many of my students come from impoverished backgrounds, they all possess a thirst for learning that is promising for our nation's future.
