Most of my school's kids are immigrants, and 84% come from low income families. Many are still learning English, and Civics test problems can be very difficult and discouraging for them when they are struggling with basic reading. Many of them missed year(s) worth of education in their native countries too. Since the End of Year Exam for my class (which they have to pass to enter high school) is wordy and requires intense study, it’s essential that my kids study hard for the test if they’re going to ace it! For this reason, I am constantly printing out new practice tests and study activities for my children, and I’d print more if I had the ink. That’s what this project will allow me to do. In addition, the school computers that I have in my room have faulty screens, not allowing me to assign select students to differentiated instruction on them, having them work through digital study activities. Putting new screens in my classroom will allow me to do that, and give me greater flexibility in planning!
