Listening to texts read aloud provides students with the ability to practice what they struggle with in a much more exciting way. They can listen to the text while following along, which helps to learn those dreaded sight words. Additionally, headphones help students who have challenges with reading participate in rich class discussions. They can demonstrate what they know about science or social studies without the challenges of reading the difficult text. This, in turn, leads to increased learning. We've all been told, practice makes perfect, and noise-canceling headphones could be the opportunity that pushes my students to the top. Plus who doesn't like listening to someone else read? I know I do.
