My Project
By the end of the year, I want my kindergarten students to be able to work with teachers and peers to research a topic, such as animal habitats, and create a visual product to be presented to the class. We do not have enough technology and other resources to facilitate hands-on learning.
My students come from a wide variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Their families do their best to have them come to school prepared to learn even though they may not have had all the resources they need. My students have a great thirst for learning about anything that had to do with science and the world beyond our community. My school has been working hard to motivate students to work hard, do their best and set high learning goals.
I would like to have my students be able to research a science topic in a small group using the iPad and BrainPOP application. BrainPOP is an application that has hundreds of videos and interactive activities in the subject areas of science, math and social studies. My students enjoy watching the BrainPop videos. They bring lessons that we have been studying in class to life in a new way. Students will also be able to learn more about topics in our listening center. Unfortunately, out current headphones are not working properly and the cords are constantly distracting my student, especialy those with sensory sensitivities.
Having these resources available to my students in my classroom will engage and motivate them in ways they have not experienced. Learning to work as a team to create a project is a skill they will need and use throughout their academic and professional life. Starting to learn these skills in kindergarten will "jump start" their quest for knoweldge.
