These materials( books, cards and such) will be utilized with individual and small groups of students to develop and strengthen their social emotional skills. Our students deal with many stressors in their young lives and demonstrate a clear need to develop their coping skills, which can be done using social and emotional teaching. Resources such as mindfulness curriculums will provide students with direct coping skills to use within the classroom. When students can apply these strategies, they can remain in their "thinking brain" while enhancing their focus and learning. Additionally, using books for bibliotherapy is a great way for students to relate to characters while reflecting and enhancing their own critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Providing students with engaging activities and materials to develop their social emotional skills is crucial in preparing them to be successful inside and outside of the classroom.
