These materials will keep American Lakes' Green Team going strong. Students will be able to continue with their recycling. Our school moved about 8 tons of paper, aluminum, glass and plastic out of our landfills each year. For the past two years the entire school has been involved with food waste diversion and we have moved our food waste so it can be utilized by Waste management trucks for fuel. Our Green Team started with 25 very enthusiastic students and over the past 5 years has grown to 50. These students are the cream of the crop. Students work very hard to be on the Green Team. Our team has students who have risen to the challenge of getting homework done, improving attendance and showing amazing citizenship. Some of these members were struggling until they found their calling with the Green Team. When students work together they improve relationships. Kids on the Green Team enjoy working together and do public speaking, waste stream tracking, and make things with recycled materials. We also work the school's garden and beautify the school. Members are rewarded with an annual field trip, Splash party, and Gold Medal at our final awards assembly.
