I am looking for funding to bring a current year of Science World Magazines to my classroom. With a subscription, I will get enough magazines for each child to have their own as we read and share the information in them. I can share this subscription with all of my classes, as well as with other Science Teachers, so many students will benefit from funding of this project. Having Science World Magazines in my classroom will help my students become better readers as they learn about up-to-date happenings in the world of science. Frequently, we read articles together as a class, and have the most wonderful discussions about what is happening in the scientific world. Each issue comes with extra materials for students to use in class, like skill sheets and graphs. There are video links for many of the articles. When my class has a subscription, students can access the articles, videos, and even games and experiments online from anywhere! I know how wonderful this resource will be in my classroom, because I have had it in the past. Before, I was given funding for these magazines, but my funding has been cut. This is really disappointing, because my students love to read the articles alone and together! Articles are written at the level my students can understand, and the topics are perfect for their age level. I love how much my students enjoy these magazines! Even though they could access articles online, students often ask if they can take the magazines home to share some articles with family members. Also, students frequently opt to sit and read one of these magazines when they have a few extra minutes. Students use the features to complete an assignment called Article Analysis and for projects within other classes.
