My classroom is better described as a restaurant. In the kitchen, students with an array of disabilities learn to cook to gain independence while transitioning into adulthood. Although we do have an emphasis on independence, we double down as a pre-vocational training room; we become a restaurant for the adults in the school to buy lunch from. Up until the end of the 2018 school year, the students were using a cash register from the 1990's. With the advancements we have made in the past 20 years, the students will prosper from having an upgrade in technology. The newer cash register would help my students to become better prepared for their possible careers in the food industry. With 100% of my students being diagnosed with a disability, having an easier method to close a transaction will help to make one part of their lives easier to learn and complete. We would love to thank everyone who reads about our amazing mission and thank you for your time!
