My classroom was inundated with water after the catastrophic flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. I lost my personal library of young adult novels as well as all of my flexible seating areas and desk areas. Student school supplies were washed away, too. With this new furniture, I can rebuild my reading classroom into a safe place for my students who where traumatized by the experience. Many lost their cars, homes and possessions in a matter of minutes and had to be rescued from rooftops to survive. They will have stories to tell, but they will need to escape in books, too. This new furniture will allow me to rebuild my classroom in a place of safety and security. Students will be able to escape into books and temporarily forget their own struggles or connect with characters who have faced adversity and overcome it.
