I am fortunate to be in a district that invests in its students. Every classroom on my campus has one iPad for every two students. This valuable tool has daily application. Students use the Internet and online books to conduct research. They take AR tests to build literacy skills. They use interactive programs like Imagine Math and iStation that tailor instruction to their level. They even use programs like iMovie to create products that teach each other. Parents have provided headphones so that these programs can be used silently by individual students, but only one headphone jack per device means that iPad partners and groups cannot share in the rich audio-visual experiences available. The solution to this problem is a headphone splitter that will allow up to 4 students to collaborate on a single device. With these headphone splitters, students can listen to the same book, work on the same project, and add to their collaborative learning without waiting to share a single pair of headphones. Classroom management will improve because ambient noise will be reduced. Both teachers and students will feel the difference of this investment.
