For the 3rd grade reading curriculum, we use books for our read alouds to teach and reinforce their reading skills. Each week we focus on a different comprehension skill and strategy to build life long readers. We need a variety of books to reach all of our students that are on different reading levels. The teacher reads the book throughout the week and models how to think deeply, ask questions, monitor comprehension, and so much more. Not only will these books strengthen their listening and comprehension skills, they will also expose our students to different genres of text that they might otherwise not experience on their own.
