My students are building their resumes with not only their part time job experiences and high school achievements, but also the community service projects they participate in, which is all a part of the Jobs for America's Graduates program. They need jump drives to save their resume information, community services hours, and high school achievements starting in their 9th grade year. Having a well-read resume that they have spent 3 years building will be a tremendous advantage for them when they are juniors and seniors looking for part time work. By the time they are seniors they will have built a resume that they are proud of that will serve them well when applying for jobs, scholarships or colleges. In addition to the jump drives for building their resumes, they also need binders, scissors and sharpies for creating portfolios with work samples such as their personal mission statements, autobiographies, and leadership and teamwork samples, which will show off their skills and accomplishments. I can just imagine my students' faces light up when they receive jump drives and nice clean binders that will keep their information and work samples safe and organized. These items will make a tremendous difference in their ability to gather, update and organize their work that they will use as they plan for their careers, college or the military.
