My students need outlets to help deal with the trauma that can be experienced in their neighborhood and their homes. I believe a physical object to process emotions and create new ideas for the students will help them significantly. We need sketchbooks to take ownership of ideas and to use as catalyst for progress within themselves and in an underserved community. My students will learn sketching techniques for documentation, collaging techniques for idea organization, and journaling for empowering their voice. I will use the sketchbooks to limit paper consumption, instead of printing handouts for them, everything will be documented directly in the book, including Bellringer/Do Now, questions, critiques, and quizzes. We are going to use the sketchbooks everyday for creating projects. Like most artist, we'll use them as a catalog for techniques and skills we learn in the classroom, and as a journal for reflection and also for non academic thoughts.
