After school action will be taking place in our school. In order to put this plan into "action", I am wanting to start an after school sewing/craft club. The students, volunteers and myself need help in obtaining supplies and materials to get students busy "sewing" their hearts out. This club will be open to all students including students with disabilities. The fabric will be measured, cut and sewn together in order to make a simple but useful item that each student can own. The students will learn how to use a measuring tape, scissors, needle and thread along with other related tools. These tools will be kept in the classroom in tubs on a shelf. As a teacher I am always trying to use project based learning to teach my students concepts and skills. This after school club will enable the students to practice and apply this knowledge as well as, build other skills that will help them be productive and successful for the future. This club is a start towards helping students learn valuable skills that will help them transition into adulthood, as well as,developing pride in designing, planning and making an object. By organizing and designing their own projects, it allows each student to build their confidence and apply what they have learned in school. It also provides a safe environment that enable each student to take responsibility for their own project through planning, designing and producing a final project.
