The expected outcomes of this project include a heightened interest in reading and reading comprehension as well as academic teamwork for students in all grade levels. Various ELA students will read a minimum of four BOB books throughout the school year and showcase their knowledge of those books in the school-wide BOB competition. Our regional BOB team comprised of twelve students will read every book on the BOB list and showcase their knowledge of the vast array of literature in the regional BOB competition. Our regional BOB team will meet weekly to prepare for the regional competition, in which they will read, develop and answer practice questions, and drill each other on titles and authors. Both the school-wide and regional competitions will be held in the spring and all participants will be recognized at the grade level awards day ceremony. The availability of these books will offer our students at every grade level engaging and continuous access to rich literature from a variety of genres. In reality, this project is never ending because the availability of the BOB sets ensures student access to literature for years to come. The BOB reading lists that are released by the state of North Carolina frequently repeats book titles, therefore books that are acquired this year will be extremely useful in years to come, as well.
