These books will be used to teach first graders how to read and to help them develop a love for reading. Students will learn and grow by reading the content of the books and they will also use the books to do extended activities based on the stories such as phonics lessons, writing, plays, illustrations, and other creative expressions. Young readers can never have enough books to read. Each year, my class reads their way through my classroom library and they still want more books. I typically take my students on a field trip to the public library so that they can get a library card and borrow books for free. We were not able to go on the library field trip last year and I don't know if we will be able to go this year either. I would like to be able to provide my students with a large variety of books to read in the classroom.
