Getting kids to fall in love with reading all depends on student choice. Engaging books in the hands of students can help students find joy in the act of reading and storytelling. With engaging new graphic novels, students become excited to read, not for the sake of a class “assignment,” but because they want to know the story. Graphic novels can engage students who do not like to read. They enjoy the images as they read and learn higher vocabulary in the process. Once a child falls in love with reading, they fall in love with story. Once they fall in love with story, they begin to understand countless areas of literacy, like writing, poetry, speech-making, music, art… and then, the sky's the limit to understanding the world! Reading is freedom! When a child learns to think because of a book that has engaged them, they learn a life-long skill. Turning a student who does not like to read into a kid who loves to read, all depends on helping them find that just right book. Graphic novels are books that engage those students into becoming kids who love to read.
