A middle school classroom is an interesting place to be. The kids are a mix of children and teenagers. Half of them are too cool to try while half of them don't notice the people around them. Many of the kids who are stuck in childhood need to move around and wiggle. They don't want to be stuck in a chair all day.
They want to stand up and stretch their legs while they are reading and writing essays. As adults we can chose jobs and lifestyles that fit our active levels. Kids are stuck sitting all day and it does not fit for everyone.
A comment consistently heard in teaching circles is that it’s unreasonable to ask kids to sit and pay attention for six hours a day. With school schedules edging out physical education and recess, one way to reintroduce activity is by integrating it into the general curriculum.
I would like to provide my students with an option to stand while they work. Many students already do this on their own, but then have to sit back down while they write or take tests. Standing allows for better circulation, increased metabolism, and better focus for many students.
