I have many ideas that I can not wait to try out! Flexible seating will make my classroom more STUDENT CENTERED! Classrooms that are student-centered are more successful. I will continue to use rectangular tables, but I would like to put different seating options at each table. One table will consist of 4 Jellyfish chairs. This will give those students a little bit of movement while still being focused. Two tables will have 4 wobble chairs and 4 Hokki stools. This will just be an alternative to a the regular chair. They will be able to move their legs around without restrictions. One table will have 4 air cushions. These cushions will be placed on regular classroom chairs. This will give a little bit of "fidget" but still have a back for support. I will put the soft seats at the coffee table for those who like to sit on the floor and be able to use the coffee table as their desk. I know that there are children who would rather lay or lounge to do work. I think the soft seats and bean bags would be great for that. I have a few scoop seats/game chairs now. The clean trays will be used as lap desks. Of course, the students will need a place to keep their supplies so the storage bins will be color coded by groups. Since the children will have the option of having movement when they do their work, an adult Jellyfish chair will be perfect for morning opening/storytime/lessons. Students will enjoy having the opportunity to choose where and who they sit by. They will also learn the responsibility of managing care of their own supplies. Thank you for funding my project!
