I work in a title 1 school with students of various backgrounds and low socio economic status. My students are curious, active and creative learners. Last school year I self funded and implemented flexible seating in my classroom. I was the first teacher at my school to use flexible seating to improve student concentration, social/emotional wellness and strengthen independent skills. The project was very successful. Students thrived with the new classroom configuration. Not only did it give active learners a way to learn without disrupting others, it improves their discipline, academics and enthusiasm for school. I would like to add key pieces to my flexible seating configuration based on student preference. They loved sitting on the floor. A more organized space is ideal to allow them space to move around. According to my students, "my favorite thing about Mrs. Rothman's class is flexible seating. "
