I am a 7th and 8th grade language arts teacher working at a public school located in a neighborhood rich in culture but struggling to meet the needs of the people who live there. My classroom consists of a diverse group of students from many different cultures, academic levels, and socio-economic conditions. For most of my students, English is not the language they speak at home and learning about different customs is part of everyday conversation.
