I am a special education teacher. Many of my students come from low-income families. Most of them receive free or reduced-price lunch. Some of them do not have enough money to buy school supplies. Some of them need to walk to school because they do not have enough money for a bus. My students experience parents getting divorced, a lack of parents, having a baby at their young age, being homeless, babysitting siblings, working to help out their parents, etc. Most of our students are Hispanic. All my students are in special education. Many of our students will be the first in their families to go to college.
