My goal is to provide my students with access to technology that will allow them to participate in digital learning! I have been trained through the Discovery Education program in our school district, and this project will help me to incorporate engaging learning activities and strategies into our daily classroom routines! Students must have access to technology, allowing them to collaborate and develop 21st century skills. I'm requesting six HP detachable laptop computers. With these laptops the students will use Web 2.0 platforms like Edmodo. We already have Edmodo accounts setup for our class, but students don't have adequate access. This will allow students to explore online resources, participate in blogs, surveys, and collaborative tools such as Wikis! Additionally, students need a place to publish their work. We will use this to participate in online platforms like Padlet to share content and Discovery Education to participate in research and board building. Overall, these computers will provide my students a way to access the internet. We plan to use the computers to participate in blended instruction and reduce paper consumption. For example, students come in every day to participate in a bell ringer at the beginning of class. These computers will allow students to access the bell ringer activities online, collaborate as a group, and post their responses as a class on the class Padlet page. Also, it will allow students to evaluate and critique students from other classes who have posted on the same page. Additionally, students will be able to use the stylus and tablet features of the the computers to illustrate scenes in literature books we are studying. Students will also be able to work on concept mapping, helping in analyzing text. They will be able to instantaneously share their group concept maps with the class to the SMARTBoard already in the classroom.
